    Default Census access query

    Hello

Is there a way to find who lived in a particular house or street from the Census if you don't know their name? Any access I've seen needs a name.

Findmypast - on the home page click the drop down for "SEARCH".

In the third column on the right hand side you will see "search addresses". That allows you to search a particular address across all the censuses.

OK Thanks for that, I don't use that one but might have to.

Not as good, but you can also try Ancestry by selecting the census year record set and then putting the town and street name in the Keyword box, but use quote marks around each and tick the exact box.

You may need to play around a little, eg using "St" instead of "Street" and vice versa, but it works reasonably well.

Your local library may provide free access to FMP and/or Ancestry.
The only downside being that you have to physically go to the library to access the site(s).
