I agree not impossible, as ages on the census aren't always reliable, but if Susanna's actual age was 70 - 74 I have doubts she is Charlotte's mother.
Arh rounded downward, thanks for that.

    FMP Baptisms (transcription)

Parents James and Susanna Taught, place Hastings
Edward - 31 July 1807; Elizabeth, John, Sarah, William - all bap 29 Dec 1809

If the relevant marriage was 1794 (Susannah Gardiner) are the 1809 baptisms a "batch" job, a "catching up" exercise?

Trying to identify parents of John, Eliza and George in the '41 household with James/Susannah and Joseph/Charlotte.

John could be the John bap 1809.

There's an Eliza Taught, bap 26 Sep 1823, parents William and Mary. William could be the William bap 1809 if he was being baptised some years after his birth. There's a 15 year gap between these baps and the 1794 marriage. But why not baptise the lot, including Edward, in 1807? Ooh, me 'ead is beginning to 'urt!

Looking for a relevant ie. linked baptism for George.

Removal order to St Clement Hastings
    5 Jan 1807

James Taught, wife Susannah, and children Susannah (12 years), Mary (10 years), James (9 years), William (7 years), Sarah (5 years) and John (2 years); from Brighton

I think the first three children were baptised in Brighton with the surname transcribed by Ancestry as FORT. James born 1796, Mary born 1797, and Susannah born 1799, all baptised in August 1799. Perhaps the transcribed year of birth is incorrect for Susannah, there is also a baptism in 1795 for a Susannah PORT daughter of James and Susannah. The baptisms of the other children coincide with their settlement in Hastings.

There are many references to the TAUGHT family at https://www.thekeep.info/ and these in particular may be of interest:

    Bastardy order

William Mann of St Clement Hastings, fisherman, father of Sarah Taught’s son, born on 30 Jul 1818

Sarah Taught of All Saints Hastings: born at Brighton but her father was from St Clement Hastings; pregnant with an illegitimate child

Removal order to St Clement Hastings

Sarah Taught, singlewoman (pregnant with an illegitimate child); from All Saints Hastings

Sarah Taught of St Clement Hastings: born at Brighton but her father was from St Clement Hastings; pregnant with an illegitimate child

Sarah Taught, singlewoman (pregnant with an illegitimate child); from All Saints Hastings

    Bastardy order
    11 Mar 1817

James Page of St Clement Hastings, mariner, father of Mary Taught’s daughter, born at Joshua Slann’s house on 15 Feb 1817

Removal order to St Clement Hastings
    19 Apr 1823

Mary Taught, singlewoman (pregnant with an illegitimate child); from All Saints Hastings

    Bastardy order
    23 Aug 1823

William Tapp of Holy Trinity Hastings, fisherman, father of Mary Taught's daughter, born at the house of James Funnell in St Clement Hastings on 26 Jul 1823

If Sarah and Mary were having illegitimate children then one of them may be Charlotte's mother, most likely Mary as that was the name of Charlotte's first daughter.
