    Default Occupations on Marriage Entry

Line 1: SIMMONS Hallross? in the Royal Train of Artillery.
Line 3: To Thomas RIED Hesetter? in Perth.

Anyone tell me the words in bold - on the rest of the page these are always occupations after the Groom & Brides Fathers Surnames.

    Thanks

    Mitch

Think you might need to either include an image or else tell us where to find the image, Mitch.

Word in the first line (in my opinion) ends in either double S, or else P.

The word in the third line might be double L rather than double T, because the downward loop of the G in burgh seems to cut across the letters.
    Alternatively, either LT or TL.

No further along with with what either word might actually be.
Is the image online so we can see a little more of the page?

The image is a paid for scotlands people page Pam sadly. I did consider that they were areas of Perth but nothing clicked and the other three entries on the page all read 'Weaver in Perth' 'Labourer in Perth' so I expected this to be the same.....

I thought it might be from Scotland's People because of the 'Perth', though it could have been the Perth in Australia.

According to FamilySearch, you should be able to access the image at a LDS FHS, or a FamilySearch affiliate library, so if anyone's going and could do a favour for Mitch by comparing more of the writing . . . . .
You're looking for a marriage of Mathew Simmons and Ann Ried (note exact spellings) on 18 July 1786 in Perth, Scotland.

The descenders from the lines above don't help, but if you try to ignore them, I think the second one is Aleseller.

I can't work out the first one; it too might start with 'A', but it could be 'M' or 'H'.

If it's a Scotland's People image, once you've paid you can go back and look at it or download it as many times as you want.

Thanks Arthur - I hadn't considered it being an A! The other occupation surely has something to do with him being in the Royal Train of Artillery but I can't fathom it.

I think it could be Matross. He would have assisted the gunners in the artillery.
