This man appears to have been born as Thomas BAMBER, married as Thomas Marshall BAMBER, served as Thomas MARSHALL - so his papers are "mis-filed" in the WW1 Service Records (WO 363):
Joined the Lancs Fusiliers in January 1915, declared age 37y 5m, born Church, Lancashire. (Possible birth Q3 1876 Blackburn?).
Declared 3 years former service with the Lancs Fusiliers, having purchased his discharge.
Served as Pte 13566; Transferred to the South Lancs (Pte 18759).
Died of wounds May 1915.
Home address (Jan 1915): Accrington, Lancs.
Married 1902 Haslingden - Florence Annie MONARCH, spinster.
He may have been married before - his 2 eldest children are born April 1902 in Burnley and September 1902 in Rishton. Or perhaps the eldest was adopted - I cannot find a birth for Hubert Vincent.
Children:
- Hubert Vincent 1902,
- Louis Marshall Bamber 1902,
- Herbert Henry (registered as Herbert) 1903,
- Maud Mary 1905,
- Agnes (registered as Agnes Marshall) 1907,
- Margaret (registered as Margaret Marshall) 1908.
His widow signs as MARSHALL, and refers to him in a letter as "Marshall (alias) Bamber". (She moves back to Blackburn by 1921.)

Birth reg Thomas Henry Bamber Mother's maiden name Monarch.
1901 Dec 1/4 reg dist The Burnley Union Vol 8E Page 202
On FreeBMD there is only one Bamber/Monarch marriage anywhere, anytime and that is Thomas' and Florences. So who is Thomas Henry?
There is a death of a Thomas Henry, Wigan 1905 but he is age 0 so looks to be the one born Wigan 1905 no mmn given.
So did Thomas Henry Bamber 1902 become Hubert Vincent?
