Death reg Sept 1/4, district Southwark vol 1d page 5
    Bertie J West age 27.
So a birth c 1884 which is a good match for your Bertie as his birth reg was March 1/4 1885 so could have been born late 1884 and registered Jan 1885. Mind you it means Lilian didn't waste any time remarrying.

The 1911 census shows him as Bertie James with Lilian Rebbeca and their 2 sons living in Newington St Mary. It shows that he was a printer warehouseman and she a waitress and also tells you that they had been married for 3 years and 4/12 .

Ancestry have a copy of their marriage certificate. They were married on Christmas Day 1907 at St Stephens Church, Walworth. He as a butler and she a waitress. His father was John William West a salesman and one of the witnesses was an Alice Ann West, who based on looking at the censuses listed below was his sister.

He must have died after the 1911 census. Divorce was very hard to get in those days and would have taken longer than 1 year.

If you look at the original of the 1911 census he signed it.

You're not wrong!! lol. Thanks for all your help.

I really want to be able to find my dad's family as he never knew them and he's 81 now. My nan remarried when my dad was 10 and all contact with the Millers stopped. I would love to be able to tell him his history and perhaps find a living relative directly linked to him.

Have you got a copy of his birth certificate yet? Surely you are getting one.

Was his birthday 17 Dec 1884?

Bertie James WEST, his brother Arthur Ernest and his sister Alice Ann were all baptised on 14 Mar 1889 at St Stephen, Walworth, the children of John William, a warehouseman, and Ellen WEST of 3 Corbet's Court.

    Hi Peter,

I haven't got birth cert as yet but will be ordering one this week. I ve got copy of my grandad's that my mum ordered but that's it. My dad was 6 months old when his dad died so I ve literally got nothing apart from a couple of photos and a few bits of info that my dad has told me.
