Default Trying to find regiment location

My 3rd great grandfather was in the army & online it’s only given me “5th BN royal fusiliers” and his service number 2040 but can’t find where in the uk he was based during his army days the transcript only says where he was from but not where he was sent to 😞

What exactly is the record that you found and what was his name and date and place of birth?

PS Regimental numbers were not unique. That's why we need his name as well.

Please note that according to my records, the 5th Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers was a militia unit.

I searched FMP under the soldier no. "2040" and "5th bn royal fusiliers" in "Optional keywords" - returned 1 hit for a Militia attestation (form E50).
Searching FMP under the full name returned, but without soldier no. 2040, turned up a 2nd record - Army attestation form B265 with details of 8/9 years service.

You need to look at the image, not the transcription.

I don’t have access to the image as I use the libraries subscription and their subscription seems to only allow to view transcripts on Findmypast 😞

    There's an attestation for the militia (2040) - 7th battalion, not 5th.

There's an entry in the record to the effect that he was transferred to the Royal Fusiliers (ie as a regular, not militia) on 28-10-01.

Then there is a separate record for his attestation to the Royal Fusiliers proper (9248). You need to read that for details of his army career - which was not exactly unblemished! He's the first flasher that I can remember anyone here finding!

If that's a British public library you're talking about, I believe you can access the images. I'd go back and try again if I were you.
