Just re reading that article...I got the Coldstream Guard William out of sequence....it should read as:

    https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/009611184

    William R Eggleston son of
    George Mercer Eggleston Son Of
William L Eggleston son of (Sergeant in the Coldstream guards, who became a confectioner at Grantham)
    William Eggleston

The article also says he William L became a sergeant in the Coldstream Guards. Is there any chance service records for William L might have more details on his parents or dob etc?

you can tell I'm not an expert at this !

William Loverseed Eggleston, born 1772, baptised 21 February 1772, Newark - parents John and Ann. Died Stamford, Lincolnshire 1830.

George Mercer Eggleston, baptised Newark 1799 - the baptism record is on FindMyPast, but I don't have a subscription.

George Mercer Eggleston married Maria Watson, 1822, Hougham, Lincolnshire - marriage record on FMP

William Rather Eggleston, baptised 16 February 1824, Grantham, Lincolnshire, parents George & Maria

I'm going in the wrong direction timewise. I'm thinking John (born 1740) is just as likely to have been born in Lincolnshire as Notttinghamshire, or even another neighbouring county.

    Lol

Yes. But at least those characters are linked up as descendants of John Eggleston X Ann Loverseeds.

Now, if we can only find Johns parents.

a little bit of context. Claypole is in Lincolnshire, but right on the border with Nottinghamshire. Newark is 4 miles from Claypole.

    This might explain

Joseph Eggleston, baptised 18 October 1776, Newark, parents John & Ann.
Joseph Eggleston, burial 6 January 1778, Claypole, parents John & Ann

Susanna Eggleston, baptised 28 April 1778, Newark, parents John & Ann
Susanna Eggleston, burial 1 March 1791, Claypole, parents John & Ann

I haven't researched all the children of John & Ann. I think there may be nine or more.

I had Joseph, but not Susanna, I’ll add her in. And that is great geographical context.

I had Ann in the tree, but not her husband. I’ll add William Rather in.
Interestingly, her burial details say Newark, Nottinghamshire, EnglandDenominationWesleyanPiece TitlePiece 3961: Newark (Wesleyan), 1811-1856

This Piece Title number ‘3961’ is the same quoted for the Burials of her parents:

NameJohn EgglestonBirth Dateabt 1740Event TypeBurialDeath Dateabt 1813Death Age73Burial Date17 Mar 1813Burial PlaceNewark, Lincolnshire, EnglandDenominationWesleyanPiece TitlePiece 3961: Newark (Wesleyan), 1811-1856

I wonder if there is a way of finding out who else is buried under that same Piece Title Number 3961?
