    Hi Karen,

Nice to hear from you again.

That would be great if you could ask around your contacts. Charles James does seem to be a bit elusive - he had three sons in 1873, 1875 and 1876, and then seemed to disappear.

By 'post another web site' do you just mean give the internet address? If that is so, I haven't seen any restrictions - someone please correct me if I'm wrong. However, by all means e-mail me directly - we've corresponded before offsite.

The family is well, thank you. As I hope yours is, too.

    Best Regards,

    Pam

    Hello Pam

It's a little more complicated than that. Cumberland was his grandmother's maiden name: Joseph Cumberland MOREHEN's parents were Joseph MOREHEN and Elizabeth WILSON (born Wadenhoe, 1825, married Wadenhoe 15/10/1849); Elizabeth's parents were George WILSON (b. Woodford, Northants, 1792) and Mary CUMBERLAND (b. Wadenhoe, 1797, married miles away for reasons unknown to me at Hardingstone, Northants (!!), 15/8/1814). As it happens George Wilson and Mary Cumberland are my 3xgreat-grandparents (I am descended from Elizabeth Wilson's eldest sister Esther Wilson, b. Wadenhoe, 1816).

    Best wishes
    Geoff

    Hi Geoffrey,

Karen and I have been corresponding offsite, and she explained to me the Cumberland relationship. I didn't have information from that side of the family. I am descended from Joseph Morehen and Elizabeth Wilson - I guess we are related way back through George Wilson.

Karen was going to give you my e-mail address so we can correspnd.

    Best regards,

    Pam

    Default Wadenhoe Roots

Hello All, I happened onto this site by Google-ing my last name and Wadenhoe. Since that is where my Grandfather was born. Albert George Morehen was born in 1889 and eventually moved from England to San Francisco after WW I. He died in 1944. I am looking for information on his parents, William Morehen and Charlotte Wilson. As well as anything further that is available. I do not know if he had any siblings. I have never met another person with the last name of Morehen, except for my parents, grandmother, and brother and sister. Any information would be appreciated.

You can find William MOREHEN in the 1881 census at www.familysearch.org. He's 21 years old, an Ag Lab, living in Wadenhoe Village with his widowed 55 year old mother Elizabeth and 16 year old sister Emma.

    In 1871, William's family...

FreeBMD may have birth, marriage and death information on many of your ancestors. For example, the following looks like the death record for William's father Joseph...

    1866 3rd quarter
    -- Joseph MOREHEN
    -- aged 42
    -- Oundle, Huntingdonshire Northamptonshire

    Volume 3b Page 196

Here's Joseph with his family in 1851:
    Census: 1851: HO107/1746 Folio 110 Page 20
    Address: Pilton, Northamptonshire
-- Joseph MOORHEN [sic] Head Mar 27 Shepherd [born[ North

-- Elizabeth Do Wife Mar 26 [born] Do Do
-- George John Do Son U [born] Do Pilton

The 1881 census shows a 16 year old Charlotte WILSON working as a servant for a couple named WEBB. And there's a John WILSON, a millwright born in "Wadner", living as a boarder with a family named BROOKS. Also in the household is a John W. WILSON, 18, also a millwright born in Wadner.

Following through... I think this may be Charlotte's family in 1871:

    Census: 1871: RG10/1508 Folio 35 Page 10
    Address: Thrapston, Northamptonshire
-- John WILSON Head Mar 41 Publican [born] Northsh Wadnoe
-- Elizabeth do Wife Mar 29 do Wife [born] Huntingtonsh Leighton
-- John W. WILSON Son 8 Scholar [born] Northsh Aldwinth [or Aldwinkle]
-- Lottie do Daur 5 do [born] do Litchmarsh
-- Margaret do Daur 1 [born] do Thrapston
-- Kate BEAL Serv 12 Domestic Serv [born] do do

    HTH,
    Trish
