    Default Bartholomew Beckett

    Dear everyone

I refer to Name Bartholomew Beckett
    Spouse's Name Elizabeth Wade
    Event Date 28 Jul 1845
    Event Place Cathedral,Manchester,Lancashire,England

tryng to find where they lived in the 1851 census. Bartholomew and family moved to Australia 1854.
but daughter Jeannie has on her death cert. born 1871 Manchester.
So either whoever filled out the death cert was wrong, or the family travelled back to England and returned to australia.
Barthlomew died 1902 Victoria Australia. His parents: father Bartholomew Beckett and mother Ann Atkinson.
I am also trying to find parents marriage and parentage.
Are there any other children of Bartholomew and Elizabeth Wade.
your help would be very much appreciated.
    thanks
    Doreen

Who is the informant on the death certificate?
From certificate, how many years in colony?
Children should be listed on certificate.
Have you checked Lan OPC for detail of marriage?

I did a search of censuses for Bartholomew Beckett without any age restrictions and see 3 instances, none of whom are your man, but it would suggest that he was Irish because:

1861 census - Bartholomew aged 16 a French polisher born in Ireland living with his brothers who were chair makers
1871 census - Bartholomew aged 25 a French polisher born in New York living in a boarding house- incidentally irrespective of the discrepancy between the two places of birth I think they are both the same person.
1881 census - Bartholomew aged 5 the son of Robert Beckett one of the brothers from the 1861 census.

Is the information you give from Jeannie's Death Certificate?
Do you have Bartholomew's death cert? If not you really need this.
What year was Bartholomew born? He died 1902 so assume b c 1820-25
Information on a certificate isn't 100% reliable. It depends on how well the informant knew or thought he/she knew the person.

Most of the 1851 census for (parts of) Manchester is either water-damaged or missing. Findmypast has transcriptions for the parts which were able to be transcribed. They may have images too - I can't remember. Don't have time to look as I have to go out in forty-five minutes and I still have to get in the shower, etc. (Apologies for the TMI. )

    Is this your chap?
I am on my phone. If this doesn't open try googling Bartholomew Beckett Melbourne 1854

I am guessing not, as yours came on an assisted passage in 1854.....

Following Megan's suggestion in #3, I found this in Irish Genealogy:

Barth'w BECKETT baptised 6th January 1814 at St Mary, Dublin (Church of Ireland), parents George and Harriot BECKETT.

    BECKETT, Bartw Hutchinson

    Father: BECKETT, Bartw
    Mother: ATKINSON, Ann
    Place of death: Camberwell
    Age 80

    There is a biography here:

Bartholomew's will can be read here:

    1851 census

I would have strong doubts that Jane/Jennie/Jeannie was their biological daughter.

I had thought that this might have been Bartholomew's father but now realise that the dates don't fit!

The 1851 census suggests she was a few years older and this is probably her baptism in 1826:

Her parents' marriage can be found on Lancs OPC.
