This thread is a follow up to previous threads on Abraham Cohen de Lara d 1829 London 24.5.2011; Hannah De Lara-Henry Russell 29.9.2009 see #8-10 in particular on the Davies/Lloyd/Hart/Crawcour/Jacobs connections through marriages.

This thread focuses on John Davies 1826-1910 and Isabella Russell 1837-1886. Numbers of family trees have not fully identified the relationships between the lines and data has either been omitted or not identified. In the following posts I will provide data on the children of John Davies and Isabella Russell.
As a start John Davies aka Isaac was the son of David Davies aka Davis 1793-1862 and Ann Crawcour 1798-1885 see 1851 Anglo Jewry Data Base David Davies ID 31284 and Ann Crawcour ID 31285-JewishGen UK Data bases; see also Cemetery Scribes Ann Crawcour ID 9488. I have posted a wide range of data and records on the Crawcour lines including the marriage of David Davis aka Davies to Ann Crawcour aka Cravicour in 1822.
These lines are all Ashkenazi Jews- the Crawcour originating from Cracow Poland.
See also Synagogue Scribes for the will of Abraham Cohen De Lara in which his children and grandchildren are named including Ann Davies nee Crawcour.
Isaac Crawcour 1777-1837 had married Simha Cohen de Lara 1776-1851 mother of Ann and others.- These are the lines which further relate to Sarah Abigail Crawcour and David Laurent Cohen De Lara and Hannah De Lara who married Henry Russell 1812-1900 the famous composer/singer.

John Davies married Isabella Russell 1837-1886 daughter of Henry Russell 1812-1900 and Isabella Lloyd 1811--1887. Isabella was not a Jew but her father was. I have also posted that John Davies was the brother of Maurice Davies who had married Amelia Hart daughter of John Hart/Elizabeth Jacobs my 3x great grandparents. Their son Henry Chapman Hart married Amelia Hart daughter of Aaron Hart/Ann Rebecca Crawcour my 3x great grandparents. John and Elizabeth's daughter Catherine aka Kate had also married Abraham Crawcour.
In summary, these lines closely interrelate through marriages.

Nb There is also data which shows that Harriett the daughter of Isaac Crawcour and Simha Cohen De Lara married a David Davies in 1838.
Harriet is the sister of Ann who had married David Davies aka Davies.

This Davies line is likely to be Mordecai Davies see Synagogue Scribes Will Extracts NA 903 28 Jan 1837 Broker Stratford Essex wife Esther- brother Joseph Davies Stratford- see Mordecai Davies Furniture Broker Stratford E Pigot 1827-28

This line appears in the 1841 and 1851 Census which I will post on. I do not know if David Davies father Mordecai is related to David Davies father Moshe.

The 1851 Anglo Jewry Data base shows a Rachael Davies b 1839 as the daughter of David Davies and Ann Crawcour. Rachael is given as a sister of John aka Isaac Davies and his brother Maurice. In addition, in his will Moses Crawcour names Isaac Davies as his nephew and son of David and Ann Davies. The will was later contested by the Davies and I have posted data on the case in an earlier thread. As a recap the case was brought by the Davies against the executors of Moses Crawcour's will- one of the executors being Moses Angel Headmaster of the Jew's Free School who had married Rebecca Godfrey daughter of Godfrey Levy aka Levy Godfrey and his Crawcour wife. This family in house dispute named Isaac Davies and his marriage to Isabella Russell. The first name John was therefore used in preference to the Hebrew Isaac which was often a common practice.

Nb The reference to David Davies being born Stratford Essex is of interest because this links to Mordecai Davies furniture broker of Stratford Essex the father of David.

This data shows Simha Crawcour nee Simha Cohen De Lara and Rachael appears to be the daughter of Harriet who had married a Harris and became a widow and then re-married David Davis aka Davies.
This maybe Harriet with Rachel and Semira aka Simha- the spelling of the first name is too inconsistent for complete accuracy and tracing.

The Jewish Victorian.Genealogical Information from the Jewish Newspapers 1861-70 transcribed and edited by Doreen Berger, 2004 Publisher Robert Boyd has 2 entries for births relating to John Davies/Isabella Russell:
JOHN DAVIES Birth 20.11.1864 The Laurels, Church Street, Stoke Newington, surgeon dentist a son
Birth 10.12.1866 at 1 Shrewsbury Road Westbourne Park W a son.
The Shrewsbury Road address was also that of John's brother Maurice Davies. Maurice and his wife Amelia Hart had a son born 29.11.1865 at the Shrewsbury address.
This son was David Davies and his dob and name are noted in the Divorce Papers of his parents.

There is at least 1 family tree on Ancestry.Com which has David M Davies the son of John Davies/Isabella Russell as born 29 November 1865. The researcher has noted the middle name of David as Murray and a Findagrave record which notes his dob as 29 November 1865 and death 10 Dec 1955 Los Angeles California.

There are several US Census records from 1900 which shows a David M Davies married to an Emily J with their children. These records vary in terms of data but the 1900 Census gives David dob as Nov 1863; 1920 he is age 54 and 1930 64 with immigration dates from 1888-1890.I have not posted the census records because there is no confirmation as to who this David is based on actual GRO Birth Records or other supporting data.

I will post further on the other children of John and Isabella but it should be noted that there are 2 David Davies born in 1865 and 1st cousins.

I suspect that the middle name of Lloyd for John's father surgeon Dentist was an error because John aka Isaac Davies was the son of Ann Crawcour and had married Isabella Russell daughter of Henry Russell and Isabella Lloyd. How much or how little the Davies children knew about their grandparents David Davies/Ann Crawcour and Henry Russell/Isabella Lloyd is not known nor of their Jewish roots through their father.
