    Default Wallsend Thompson Family

Hi, im new to this site so not sure how it all works..

I am currently researching my thompson heritage.

But haven’t got far as stuck on my 3rd great grandfather

William Thompson born abt 1820 Newcastle area and died 1881 Wallsend (registration tynemouth)
Married Rachel Thompson born abt 1825 Newcastle area (maiden name unknown yet)

    Children:
    Margaret Thompson 1849-1902
    Married William Renwick
    William Henry Thompson 1858-1937 Newcastle
Married Sarah Thompson (maiden name unknown)

Census for William & Rachel also have children as renwicks so I’m a little confused!! They look like they are neighbours at one point and then daughter Margaret marries a Renwick.

Any advise on this would be hugely appreciated.

    Many thanks x

Margaret married in 1869 and in 1871 she and her husband and son are living with her parents and brother. Is that the census you are talking about?

Hi thanks for your reply, that if fab the birth records with mmn I have not come across these before! I will do some research on a Rachel Scott.

Also yes it was the 1871 census in Wallsend (street unreadable)that had me confused as it states the following

    William Thompson. Head. 57
    Rachel thompson. Wife. 52
    William Renwick. Son. 23
    Margaret Renwick. Daughter. 22
    William Thompson. Son. 12
    Michael Thompson. Grandson. 3

I think with the grandson as a thompson it’s thrown me a bit!!

    Thanks x

Michael was born before the marriage so was a THOMPSON. In 1881 he is William RENWICK's stepson so probably a fair indication that someone else was the father.

It looks like Sarah's maiden surname was LAVENDER. You can search for the children's births here in the GRO indexes (free but you have to register):

    https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/c...cates/menu.asp

Isaac has been indexed as a female.

Thank you Dundee10 I really appreciate all your help on this.
It’s so frustrating when you hit a brick wall and are not knowledgeable enough to know where to look!

I haven’t found a marriage record yet either, but it’s two different birth locations for her? Am I looking at two different people do you think?

Sarah Lavender shows in a 1881 census in Wollescote, Worcestershire, England?
