This man joined the Army in 1911 as George MARSHALL (and the reference from his employer is for MARSHALL), but he is noted as having married in the name of George BALLINGER/BULLINGER.
His papers are filed under MARSHALL in the WW1 Service Records (WO 363):
George BALLINGER/BULLINGER married Margaret McCABE in Dundee in April 1913. Their daughter PRISCILLA was born November 1913, in Dundee.
Born in Glasgow, George joined the RGA in July 1911, declared age 22y 2m.
Previous to this he was working (as George MARSHALL) for John ANDERSON, a Coal Merchant in Glasgow.
He served as Private 5420 but deserted in 1915 (having shot off one of his own fingers in 1914).
