Hi
I'm researching my grandfather in WW1.
According to his medals he was in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and I've looked up his number and found out he served in the 16 th batallion from 1915.
I'm confused because we have a photo of him but he's wearing a collar badge that's for Cardiff city batallion...but this is a different batallion from what's on the medal.
I'm finding all the different Welsh regiments so confusing.
Could someone offer some insight to this please?
I've attached a closer look at the collar badge.
Thanks

Everything depends on dates. It was common during WW1 for soldiers to be moved around within a regiment, or even to a totally different regiment, depending on where they were most needed. If a unit took very heavy casualties they might either get men in from another unit, or the remaining men might be sent elsewhere.
That’s probably what’s going on here.
