Default MARSH, Ernest Herbert b1891 Yarmouth - WW1

I am probably completely mistaken, but I believe that this man served (& possibly worked) as MARSHALL - and so would be difficult to trace in the WW1 Service Records (WO 363):

(There is no (English) birth recorded for Ernest Herbert MARSHALL 1885-1899.
Ernest Herbert MARSH is recorded as Q1 1891 Yarmouth.
He is literate. Perhaps his descendants are MARSHALLs?)

Ernest Herbert MARSHALL, a Post Office engineer (indispensable), living in Drainside, Boston, Lincolnshire signed up in December 1915 for the Royal Engineers, declared age 24y 330d, born Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.
He served under the Regt No: 375910, and was discharged in December 1918.
Unmarried, and unfortunately no family details.

I think you are spot-on with your assumption that Ernest Marsh, birth registration March quarter 1891 in Great Yarmouth is actually Ernest Marshall.
MMN in GRO Historical births index is Sutten (sic).

    1891 census
    RG12/1499 f46 p10
    Great Yarmouth
    Henry Marshall, 40, cooper
    Esther, 41,
    Lottie, 21
    Henry, [19/17?]
    Alice, 16
    Esther, 15
    Robert, 12,
    Harriet, 11
    Beatrice, 9.
    Edith, 3
    Ernest, 4 months
    All born Great Yarmouth

Birth registrations for Beatrice Mary Marshall, September quarter 1883 and Edith Maud Marshall, March quarter 1887, both have MMN of Sutton.

    1901
    RG13/1809 f30 p22
    Great Yarmouth
    Henry, 50, cooper
    Beatrice, 17
    Edith, 14
    Ernest, 9

    1911
    RG14/11281 SN2
Ernest Herbert Marshall, 20, boarder living in Norwich.
Occupation electrician, employer - Post Office.

His army record gives an address for a Mr/Mrs Dring of Drainside, Boston.
1911 census has a Seth Dring, miller, living Drainside North.
Daughter Jessie isn't living at home in 1911, but she's with Seth in1901, living in Sutton St Nicholas.

March quarter 1921, Boston registration district, marriage registration Ernest H Marshall and Jessie Dring.

1939 Register Ernest is still with the Post Office (now an Inspector) in Boston. Date of birth 9 January 1891.

I'll put a postem on FreeBMD saying that his surname is Marshall.
