Hi all,
Does anyone know what the uniform and rank of this person is please?
Apologies if this is not in the right forum, feel free to move if I've got it wrong!
Not seen chainmail epaulettes before either...
I think it may be WW2 era, but not certain.
Many thanks

Rank is Sergeant, don't know Regiment.
First 2 ribbons appear to be Defence Medal and 1939-1945 War Medal, cannot decipher the others. Suspect post WW2.
Someone more knowledgeable may recognise collar/button insignia.
Edit: Looking at the stripes again I've decided there maybe a crown above them, in which case his rank could be Staff or Colour Sergeant.Last edited by macwil; 14-11-2018 at 9:48 AM. Reason: Added info

The third ribbon maybe General Service Medal, cannot make out which version though.

Hi
Certainly having those ribbons would make it post-WW2.
The collar badge and buttons may give more of a clue.

The buttons appear to have a crown above XIV above XX, which denotes the 14th/20th King's Hussars Regiment.
Searching “14th/20th King's Hussars collar badges” brings up an image (among others) which matches the photo.

Have to agree buttons are 14/20 Hussars and chain mail epaulette's are a feature of the Hussar regiments.
However I have yet to convince myself that the collar insignia in OP's photo is a lion standing on a crown, it's possible I suppose, certainly the general shape of the badge is correct.

He is also wearing on his arm the Crossed Kukris awarded to 14/20th King's Hussars as a result of serving alongside a Gurkha Regiment at the Battle of Medicina, Italy in 1946.
Since 1946, 6th Queen Elizabeth's Own Gurkha Rifles, who fought alongside the Regiment at Medicina, wore the Prussian Eagle on their sleeve. This tradition is now carried on by The Royal Gurkha Rifles.
So, I have to say he was definitely in the 14/20 King's Hussars Regiment.
