    Default new here

    Hi There
I am new here and have been trying to research my father in law George Arthur Rainey
who served n the second world war in the Royal Army Medical Corps
and I can find no record of his name at all.
I am at a loss where to go to find any information regarding him
    any suggestions would be welcome

    Hello Glynis,

    Welcome to British-Genealogy.

If you came to us via Forces War Records, this will explain the link.
    https://www.british-genealogy.com/th...rs-Please-Read

FWR have specific records relating to military people at a particular part of their time in the forces.. e,g. on this day they were a PoW in Colditz.

Service records for personnel who served after 1921 are still held by the Ministry of Defence. This will tell you how to apply, and has links to the forms you need to send (in addition to a death certificate and thirty quid).

My uncle's records recently took about seven weeks to arrive.

Added Oops! Just realised you said 'father in law' as opposed to father. If George died more than twenty-five years ago then there will be no problem with you personally applying for his records. Less than twenty-five years, either you need the written permission of his next of kin (there's space on the application form), or else his next of kin need to apply.
