I just put 'the Welsh Streets Liverpool' into google and the first result was this lhttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wels...ets,_Liverpool
There's more about the regeneration, but you can see the results for yourself. Other search engines might find other results.

I had guessed that it might have had something to do with people from Wales moving to Liverpool.

I suspect that Liverpool Archives might have more information.

A couple of quotes from the Liverpool Mercury, 30 March 1852 -

"... spoke strrongly against the "rubbishy" buildings which, he said, contained the scum of the population, and which were built by a class of persons known as "Welsh builders", and who paid no rates since they did not reside in the area ..."

" ... after describing the Welsh builders as men who built houses not fit for their cattle ..."

They appeared in an article headed "Annual Vestry Meeting of the Township of West Derby".

Following last post I immediately posted a web site URL where you might find for yourself some items about Welsh builders in Liverpool. Just logged back in in and there's no sign of that 2nd post. So, let's start again -

    http://newspapers.library.wales

Click on link and put "welsh builders", including the " " as part of the search key (important), and hit Search button. Should deliver 25 hits. A number refer to Liverpool.
Two are in Welsh - will check them out and, if they contibute, will provide a translation.
