Default Tates (in particular Henry Tate)

I am trying to find information on Henry Tate's (of Tate and Lyle) ancestors. The furthest back I have been able to trace this line is Peter Tate (Taite?) born 1751 in Northumberland.

If anyone has information on this line, or can point me in the direction of where I may find it, it would be greatly appreciated!!

I am a member of Lancashire FHS and recently attended a talk about Sir Henry Tate, who was born in Withnell, Lancashire and so it might be worth contacting them to see if they can put you in contact with the lady gave the talk, who has a wealth of information.

I suggest that you contact the Chorley branch of the society as it was one of their key members who gave the talk and the best email to use is:
