Has anyone found any information regarding the Norman Cross POW Depot, near Yaxley, Huntingdonshire during 1796-1815?
I have found:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norman_Cross
https://www.gutenberg.org/files/43487/43487-0.txt
https://archive.org/details/depotfor...lkuoft/page/n9
but little else (as yet) on the Internet (I've only just started searching!!!).
Norman Cross was built in late 1796 and was managed by the "Royal Navy Transport Board".
I am specifically trying to determine a possible "VICTUALLER" to the Depot and I am starting to think that this research will come to nought.
My ancestor was John TOWNSEND, thought to have been connected with the Royal Navy and was reported in Census and other sources as a Victualler. He married in Yaxley in 1804.

Hello,
Yaxley PR's show 12 events for the Townsend name from 1708 to 1936.
I have previously found a Yaxley History Group (which Google can't find now) who should be able to help with Norman Cross, soldiers stationed their baptised children in Yaxley.

Thanks, warncoort - I'll keep searching...
I was successful in finding the Church Registration for his (John Townsend) marriage in 1804, but nothing tying him to the Norman Cross POW Depot.
As I say, probably a futile search for a VICTUALLER!!!

Where did you find him in 1841?

John Townsend was married in 1804 and he died by 1816. He was not around in 1841.

This information comes from other research, warncoort...
I have not included all the data I have for John Townsend, as my question is based on requesting information with respect to the Norman Cross POW Depot.
John shown as a VICTUALLER in his will, and the will of his wife Mary, and of his brother, George (so, 3 separate people say that John was a Victualler). However, these wills do not state where he was acting as a Victualler, nor do they state if John was acting as a Victualler anywhere else.
