Default Arbour Hill Military prison Dublin

A family are on the 1901 census but a line has been drawn through the details of the father who is a ‘soldier’
Then there is a note that says Head of family on Form H.
Does anyone know what this means? Was he a prisoners? The family story is he deserted.

    Thank you

National Archives of Ireland census help states Form H is a barracks return form. Does this mean he wasn’t in the family home at the time of the census? On duty at the barracks?

He is probably the E Hayes at Royal Barracks. If you look at the image it is form H.

Thank you all. I've looked at Form H and found him on Barrack return 71 as E Hayes and he is a Sergeant with C and a small o, does that mean Colour Sgt or Company Sgt?
