Fold3 has James Alexander Blackwell, Royal Horse Artillery and Royal Field Artillery. I can't get further without money, methinks...
His medal card shows him as 14463 Gunner James A Blackwell with the 15 Star, Victory & British medals and (in tiny little letters) the addition "+ MM". Got to France 8 Jul 1915.
No service or pension records.

Two sets of documents on Findmypast, both pretty comprehensive. One relates mainly to JAB's service in RHA and RFA, the other to service in 4th Battalion, Welsh Regiment, when he remustered as an instructor. Information on residences, wife, children, etc.
It's hard work ploughing through the pages, many of which are duplicated and triplicated!
