Default 1881 Census - odd occupation - any ideas?

    Piece 5562 Folio 73 Page 27

William Jones age 58 is described as a REWARD AGENT

I've searched various old occupation dictionaries and googled a bit .... The closest I could get to would be a bounty hunter. What do others think?

Whatever it was, it must have paid well because by 1891 he was 'living on his own means'. RG12/4655 folio 61 page 20.
He was a flour dealer in 1871, so that was no help.

My thoughts would be a commission agent, ie acting / selling on behalf of others and being paid a commission.

If I have the right man in 1861 he was a slate quarry agent & farmer of 30 acres, so he had quite some experience of being an agent.
