I am looking for divorce records for Kent in the UK. I have a marriage between Kenneth J Groombridge and Gladys K Robinson in Medway Kent in 1939.
I then have a marriage for Kenneth in 1945 to Lilian G Jones in Gloucester. I also have a marriage for Gladys K Groombridge to Walter V E Hesse in Maidstone 1947. I presume they divorced but can't find a record or he just absconded. Can anyone throw some light on this please?

This is The National Archives reseach guide on divorce files
It says the proportion of case files survival rate is
1858-1927 - almost 100%
1928-1937 - 80%
After 1937 - less than 0.2%
No case files survive from the district registries set up in 1927.
So it doesn't look good for finding the one you want but then again there is a form you can download applying for a search at a cost of 65 pounds to cover a 10 year period.

You could send for the second marriage certificates, if they divorced then it should be how they are described. In the marital status column: previous marriage dissolved, and previously the wife/husband of.
