    Default Ernest THOMAS, b c1873, Newark - WW1 alias

"Ernest Thomas alias Thomas Eusebius Spick alias Thomas Clay, etc, aged 52 years,...native of Newark" -
The heading of a letter dated May 1924 from the Chief Constable of Sheffield, this man was committed for trial on charges of "obtaining goods by false pretences (long firm fraud)".

He joined the ASC (Regt No. 109028) as Thomas CLAY on 1 July 1915, declared age 39y 360d, born Farndon, Notts.
Home address Leicester. Sister Gertrude MACALLISTER (Nottingham). Discharged 1919.

I cannot find a suitable birth for any of the names ... perhaps even Ernest THOMAS is an alias!

    Here's a candidate, Jane:

SPICK John Thomas 1875 Mar Qtr Newark Vol 07B Page 362 mmn MARRIOTT

    Newark Reg. Dist. includes Farndon.

There is a Newark birth for a Gertrude SPICK but with a different mmn:

SPICK Gertrude 1872 Sep Qtr Newark Vol 07B Page 323 mmn BELL

There are other Notts births for Gertrude SPICK but all with different mmn.
