Default ELOISA FRANCES SIMMONDS-PERCY JOHN TIDD

This new thread is for my Hauer/Simmonds/Jacobs cousins and for those Simmonds/Tidd who are currently unaware of the relationships between the various families. The thread should be read in conjunction with the several threads I have written on the Simmonds/Jacobs and related lines on this Jewish Roots forum.

Eloisa Frances Simmonds 1852-1930 descends from the German Jewish line of Moses Simon from Gehaus Germany. My Simmonds cousins in USA,Sweden, South America have significant family records on the line including a family tree. The data also forms part of the USA Stern collection on Jewish families.
There are also Synagogue Records on the UK Simmonds aka Simon aka Simons with specific reference to Wolf Simmonds who settled in London. Others of the line went to South America and the West Indies and to Sweden.

Eloisa Frances Simmonds was the daughter of Kalman (Karl) Hauer Simmonds 1824-1895 from Gehaus Germany who died in Colombia.

This particular post focuses initially on Eloisa and her marriage to Percy John Tidd 1890-1937.
The Select Marriages show- Eloisa Frances SIMMONDS single 23 father Carlos Hauer Simmonds -Percy John TIDD single 20 father John Durestine Tidd
Newington Surrey married 4 April 1875

The Newington Surrey address is important because Wolf Simmonds and his family had lived in Newington Causeway Surrey since the early 1800s and it is highly likely that Eloisa had met and stayed with Wolf's children.

There were 10 children from the marriage of Eloisa and Percy of whom 6 lived by 1911 Census.
Eloisa was born Santa Martha South America and at least one of her children Henry John was born in South America.

The children of Eloisa and Percy are recorded on several Ancestry.Com family trees as:
Henry John b 1874; William Adolphus 1877-1891; Ethel Alice 1880-1963; Mary Eloisa 1882-1949; Lena Frances 1888-; Phyllis Amelia 1890-1941; Hilda Decima 1894-1937.
There were others from the 10 born but these are not recorded and all children require further research although there are names of who some of them married and their descendants.

    I will post further.

These are various records including marriage, death, probate relating to some of the children of Eloisa and Percy. I noted that there were not 10 baptism records for all their children which means that I may prove difficult to identify the 4 children who died.

The 1871 Census shows Eloisa Frances Simmonds as a pupil:
    1871 Census ( Crown Copyright TNA) RG10 695 23 39

Clapham Classical and Preparatory Boarding School
    2 Church Buildings Clapham
    Principal Martha C Ward

Eloisa F SIMMONDS Pupil 19 b New Granada Santa Martha

There is also a Caroline Simmonds age 8 pupil b Surrey Farnham

Further data on the school can be seen on the site The Clapham Society Local History Series -4 Michael Green

The record is interesting because it shows Eloisa at a late age still studying and suggests an educated person. Currently, I can see no record to indicate when she arrived in the UK.

The following birth and at least two death records are related to some of the 10 children of Elisa and Percy Tidd. It is difficult to identify further children one of whom may have been born and died in South America:

Default JOHN DUNSTONE TIDD-JUDAH LEE SIMMONDS

The close relationship between the John Dunstone Tidd and the Judah Lee Simmonds ( son of Wolf Simmonds of Newington Causeway) can be seen in the following record- The London Gazette Jan 26 1877:
The Partnership between Judah Lee Simmonds and John Dunstone Tidd Merchants 10 Fish Street Hill London under the style or firm J L SIMMONDS and Co dissolved 22 Jan 1877.
The record other data suggests that this was a long standing relationship that was dissolved through disuse. There is no indication what the trade was between the partners.
Importantly, John Dunstone Tidd was the father of Percy John Tidd who married Eloisa Frances Simmonds. I have already posted on the relationship between Wolf Simmonds and Kalman aka Carl Hauer Simmonds father of Eloisa.
This partnership may help to explain how Percy John Tidd and Eloisa met particularly when Eloisa was at school as a pupil age 19 in Clapham as posted on.

John Dunstone Tidd 1823-1900 and Mary Giles 1821-1900 were the parents of Percy John Tidd. The 1851 Census records John Dunstone Tidd as an oil merchant employing 3 men in St Giles Cripplegate, By 1861 John was a mercantile clerk:

PERCY J son u16 Brokers clerk ship b Surrey Lambeth

I have not put in the 1881 or 1900 census relating to John Dunstone Tidd because Percy had left home by that date and had married Eloisa in 1875.

    Probate
John Dunstone Tidd 42 Crewsdon Road Clpham Road Surrey died 18 March 1900 Probate to Robert Thomas Palmer Iron Founder.
John's wife Mary had also died earlier in 1900
