It helps that I also had a Howells in Stockton at the same time (not related, unfortunately), as well as some Stockton based railway workers and RNR's

As has been established Anne is John's 2nd wife and not Benjamin's mother, whose name is Mary.
It's not going to be easy to find either the marriage for John and Mary, or their baptisms. There's quite a few possible John Howells/Mary marriages and we don't know where they married or when. I'l do some rooting about later.
Btw, any idea why Ben would move from well Wales to Durham? I understand work but seems a bit of a hike with family in towAlma
