I have found a James Cummins (b 1810 Liverpool), wife Mary and 5 children in the 1851 census for West Derby BUT he's listed as a foundry lab, not a blacksmith. In the Bishop'd Transcript for his wedding, it does say blacksmith. The 1841 for Walton on the Hill, West Derby also shows him as a smith. By 1871, he's a tool smith.

Can't find a baptism for him, though...

Marriage entry on line indicates that James was a blacksmith.

Sadly witnesses names appear on other marriage entry so of no use!

Cummins/Cummings is a fairly common name in Scotland. Have you tried scottish records? Or irish?

Before you close this off, the name Cummings, and Blacksmith as a trade, I have Cummings going Back to c1760's, @ Monks Risborough, Bucks.
Yes, it's a bit of a stretch....from North to South.....but stranger things have happened.

Cummings of Monks Risborough, held a Forge for many years.

    Steve.
Too many bones, too much sorrow, but until I am dead, there's always tomorrow.
