Grandad got the DCM, whats this one though?

My great grandad got the DCM in WW1, I have Gazette & medal cards showing him as C.S.M Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry (KOYLI) but nothing after that. I can't date the photograph really despite my grandfather being one of the lads at the front. I would love to find his medals and keep them forever.

- it refers to the EM part on his Medal Index Card, also it is clearer and shows the back on Ancestry.
You can see the oak leaf on the Victory medal which represents the MID.

In order you have the DCM, 1914-15 Star, British War, Victory and possibly a LSGC medal

Can't find an entry in the LG though!

As he has all his medals, the photo would have been taken in the mid-1920's or later, depending on when his LSGC medal was issued.

many thanks Simmo1, I didn't ever hear about the LSGC until today, I agree the ribbon and clasp (??) looks to match the George V version. I'm glad my other thoughts (including the info RE: dating) are backed up.

I have no idea where, when, how he died

I see your location is Australia. I have two open leads on the path that VIOLET SULLIVAN took, the beautiful girl stood at the back of the photo. One of them has her going to Australia, i wonder with her being the oldest child if she inherited these medals.

Are you sure you have the correct maiden surname for Millicent wife of Francis J?
If you look for the marriage in 1940 on FreeBMD the surname is Kirk as in the mother's maiden name for two children registered in 1941 and 1943, registration district Calder which includes Brighouse.

Findmypast have some service records for Francis Henry Sullivan. FMP is a pay per view site but some public libraties do have their free version.
One of the records is for 1912 and is held at St Mary Church, Glamorganshire, Wales according to FMP. have you seen this?
