There's a little clump of them in the papers - Counts & Countesses from Craschnitz, Silesia. That would explain the huge number of middle names...
This marriage is to be found in the Liverpool Mercury for 2 Feb 1877. The groom is listed as Carl Graf von der R-V, where I assume that "Graf" is his title and not one of his many names. He's "of Thurn, Saxony".

There's a notice that Countess Isabel von der Recke had a son in Dresden on Dec 29 1878.

thanks Lesley. By 'little clump of them' I guess you mean other members of the family. The marriage document amused me as, even with it reduced to initials, Karl von der Recke's name takes up four lines. I was thinking that if the couple had any children born in England, which part of the surname would one look for in the GRO birth index - I guess Volmerstein.

I only found Carl/Karl when I searched Ricke (spelling from memory), most of the reports showed the name as hyphenated. I think you’ll have to check both...

I have Afrikaans ancestors with 4 or 5 names, but I must admit that Carl’s parents seem to have been overdoing things!
