Default In a tangle with Mary Smith!

Presilla Thomas was born In May 1850 at Beaufort, Crickhowell, Brecon, daughter of William and Mary (Smith)

William Thomas married Mary Smith in April 1847 at Glasbury, Brecon and Radnor. Mary was "of full age", of Glasbury and daughter of Charles Smith, potter.

1841. Charles Smith (50), potter, born Ireland, Sarah (50),, and children Elizabeth (20), Maria(15), Sarah (15), John, (15), Joseph (14), living Upper Llanover, Bleanavon ironworks, Monmouthshire. All children born "in county". From Free Reg baptisms that may or may not be relevant:- Elizabeth Smith, 30 Nov 1818, Port Morlais Wesleyan, Merthyr Tydfil. Sarah Smith, 14 Jul 1822 and Joseph Smith, 23 Apr 1826, both St John Evangelist, Brecon. Parents of all, Charles and Sarah. Could Maria, born 1822/26, be Mary?

So far so good but census records confuse the situation.

1851. Mary Thomas, b c 1824, with William, born Salop, Shef** (Shifnal?)
1861. Mary Thomas, b c 1826, widow, born Blackrod, Lancaster.
    1871. Mary Thomas, b c 1827, born Blackrod, Lancs.
    1881. Mary Thomas, b c 1827, Gelligaer.
Prescilla a member of the household on each occasion.

There is a Mary Smith, daughter of Charles and Sarah, bapt Rochdale in 1823, but she appears to have married in Rochdale in 1853.

Was Charles Smith an itinerant who travelled from Lancashire, through Shropsire to Wales or should I be looking for a different William Thomas / Mary Smith combination?

I have used Prescilla as my focus because of her unusual name but my real interest is in her brother George, bc 1847, probably Monmouthshire. Unfortunately I can find no one with that name born in that area around that time with a mother's maiden name of Smith.

    HELP!

Thanks, Geneius, I have the birth certificate which shows a birth time of 1 a m. BMD records the birth of a Sarah Thomas with same volume and page reference and I thought I had twins but Sarah's mmn is Evans.
