    Again many thanks for your efforts. I very much doubt that my grandfather was awarded anything other than a service medal and so I will concentrate on looking for Cartwrights who may be linked to a sevice/ horse company which stayed at home and give preference to those based at Aldershot 1917-1918. Again I shan't get my hopes up as I appreciate it will be a difficult task

    Have you tried the Absent Voters records for High Ongar? If he is listed this should give his Regiment & Service Number.

    Hi Jomot1 My grandfather was 19 at the end of the war and unfortunately was not entitled to vote until the age of 21 therefore these records are unable to advance my search.
    Thanks for the idea though
