Post Radar operator in Italy Corp Herbert J Briggs

I'm looking for details of my uncle's service. He was Corporal Herbert J Briggs 1021223 and was a Radar operator with the RAF. I know he was sent to Naples in 1944 and still in Italy in 1945. I have postings of 890 A.M.E.S and then 810 A.M.E.S. Can anyone suggest where he was and what he might have been doing?

    Hello arthriticdonkey,

    Welcome to British-Genealogy.

As usual, when in doubt and ignorance, I put 890 A.M.E.S. WW2 into a search engine and was lead to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Mi...mental_Station

Another link leads me to believe that records may be held at The National Archives at Kew, though you might have to go through a lot of pieces of paper to find the ones you want.
Ooh, I actually had some success searching the TNA website. (I'm not usually that clever!) https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/
Search for 890 Air Ministry Experimental Station, and you'll get one hit. No luck with 810.

His service record might hold more details. Details on how to apply can be found here though if he died less then twenty-five years ago unless you can be classed as next of kin you will only receive a shortened version. If you have permission of his next of kin, or if died more than twenty-five years ago, then you will receive the full record.
