    J KNOTTS
I have the information from the Medal Award Rolls and Soldiers Effects. His first name is John and the Soldier's effects record gives his wife as Agnes and a son Thomas. John was born Gorbals Lanarkshire. The only marriage to an Agnes 1890-1915 is to an Agnes Quate in 1899 registration district Hutchesontown.

    1901 census
    47 Crown St Hutchesontown Lanarkshire
John Knotts 21 Plate Cutting Machine Man born Glasgow, Lanarkshire
Agnes Knotts 28 wife born Glasgow, Lanarkshire
Thomas Knotts 1 son born Glasgow, Lanarkshire

So John born c1880 but I am having difficulty finding anything for him in Scotland prior to 1901. I can't see a birth for a John Knott(s) 1875-1885 There's a Joseph Knott born in the Gorbals 1877 but I think he was signing up to the Canadian Expeditionary Force in 1815 and single.

Albert was one of 18 children. At the time of the above census 8 had died. Albert's military record lists all nine of his surviving siblings.

Albert attested to join 1/7th Battalion Kings Liverpool Regiment on 11th September 1914, declaring his age to be 23 years 7 months. He was willing to serve for a term of four years. His regiment moved to Canterbury, Kent and on 8th March 1915 landed at Le Havre. From there the regiment joined the 6th Brigade at Vendin-les-Bethune.
During November 1915 Albert's regiment moved from Beuvry to Bethune, to Le Preolan and by 12th November were established in trenches to the north of the canal at Bethune. The trenches were waterlogged but the men had been issued with waders which proved a boon to everyone. On 14th November B & C Companies returned to their billets after being relieved by A & D Companies. Albert was in A Company.
During the night of 14/15th November 2573 Private Williams was killed by a sniper and 2574 Private BARTON was wounded by the same bullet.
Albert was treated by 22nd Field Ambulance in the field but at 1.55 pm on 15th November 1915 he succumbed to his wounds and died.

Medals: Albert was awarded the 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.

Albert lies in Grave No. 10 at Annezin Cemetery.

    ALBERT BARTON

From the Liverpool Daily Post, Thursday 25th November, 1915.

A comrade in the 7th Kings (Liverpool) Regiment, who is at home in Birkdale on leave from France, brings news of the death at the front of Private Albert Barton of Birkdale. Deceased, who was employed as a labourer at Birkdale prior to his joining the Army soon after the war commenced, was very recently at home on leave. He was killed by a fragment of shell. The same shell caused the death of Private Peter Williams, also with the 7th Kings (Liverpool) Regiment, who was with Barton at the time it burst.

I can only access the transcription of this census record not the original image so can't check a couple of things such as the address.

No surviving service record for this young man and I can't see a marriage for him so the Helen mentioned on his Effects record is most likely his mother.
