Can anyone help. Am trying to find records for Devizes New Prison for 1829. Apparently Daniel Tapper was sentenced to one month hard labour for deserting his wife and family. I know he was convicted in either June or July 1829 at Wiltshire Quarter Sessions. Where would I find the prison records? Thanks. Jeddah.

I don't know for certain, but I'd try Wiltshire County Archives first.

FMP have transcriptions of the Wiltshire QS records. His (1 screen) transcription gives the date as 14 July 1929 "for a limited time".
It looks as though it would be worth your checking the National Archives as well, after you've looked at the archives Pam suggested.
I looked at the local paper which simply mentions that trials were held, no names just "crimes were of a light nature".
