Swindonians who are interested in tracing their family history can pick up tips and advice at a special workshop next week.

Claire Skinner, an archivist from the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, will give a talk and workshop on Tuesday, 30 January at the Central Library in Regent Circus, from 10:30am and 12:30pm.

The event is called Hidden Treasure, and it will focus on the wide range of local government records available to budding genealogists, what they can tell people and how they can help researchers of local and family history.

The Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre is an organisation which collects and preserves Wiltshire’s archives, and makes them available to the public .

It is based in Chippenham, and holds the local studies library, an archaeology service, the Wiltshire buildings record, the museum service and the conservation service.
