Sadly, over 60% of WW1 army service records were destroyed by fire during WW2. If someone survived, it's a matter of hunting around, looking for crumbs of info (eg local papers, eventual obituaries, etc)

On the 1918 muster roll for the brand new RAF, where the men from the RFC and RFNA who transferred to the rAF, there is a 114184 Fitter (AE) Parry, O who had been a Fitter (ENG) in the RFC. His rank had been A,Mech 2 and his new one was A.Mech 3. He joined up on 24 Mar 1917 and was promoted on 15 Oct 1917.

There's also an 8786 Rigger OT Parry and 128522 JO Parry (a pilot). I think the first one is yours.

The siege of Mafeking ended before Owen enlisted. The newspaper clipping states he was 17 years old on enlistment. The service record states he is 20.

Just to note. The medal card you posted states he was a sapper in the Royal Engineers. Without a service record, you cannot be sure that this medal card is your Owen.

The record is on line at Findmypast, it mentions parents as Owen & Mary together with 3-4 brothers, the T&C of the site prevent me from giving you full details! This site will allow you to see it as a paygo sub.

It is also on line at Fold3 a subscription site
