As I mentioned previously Ivor can be found on the 1939 register which is only available on FMP.

I believe that he returned to Wales for a funeral for either his father or mother. He never came back to America I assume because life with my grandmother and the 5 children was tough in Scranton. My grandmother raised her five surviving children (Archibald, Saron, Alice, Esther and Mildred) and lived a good life but it was hard to raise five children and no husband.

It looks like he came home for his Father's funeral.

According to census records Archibald Jones was born abt. 1844/5 depending which census. In 1911 (census) he was living in the Merthyr Tydfil registration district.

Well I have just spent quite some time looking for the births of Archibald and Mary's children so I could find her maiden name. There appear to be twins? Louisa Ann and Margaret born c1872 plus an Oliver Cromwell Jones born c1870 and a Taliesin Jones born c1879.

There are a choice of two for Taliesin in the same time frame, no Oliver Cromwell Jones birth but a choice for plain Oliver. The same with the girls.
A marriage for Archibald Jones to a Mary 1860 - 1871 brings up two. One in June 1/4 1866 Mary Lewis and the other Dec 1/4 1870 Mary Thomas.
I have not as yet been able to match the children to these mother's maiden names using FreeBMD and the GRO index.

Hi Christina, the reason I decided to leave until thill16 got back to us was because I also did some searching and I believe Archibald was married twice, both wives being Mary's. As I was unsure what exactly thill16 already knows I didn't look for all the children's birth records. I think his first wife was Mary Lewis and his second wife Mary Harris or Harries.

I'm posting to help others who may want to join in and prove or disprove my findings, and hopefully expand on them to take things further. I'm almost sure Archibald's father is John but I've run out of steam to go back and post the earlier census,
