I'm trying to research information on my Great Uncle, George Sutherland who I'm told served in India (?) around 1920. I can't seem to find anything about his military background through Ancestry but would appreciate it if anybody could help identify his regiment because of his uniform in the photo.
Thanks,
Ian

Help to Identify Uniform/Regiment

The trews would suggest a Scottish regiment.
The diamond of cloth on the helmet could be The Cameronians tartan badge.
There are some George Sutherlands in Scottish regiments. Where was your George from?
Quetta (where the photograph studio is), is in modern day Pakistan.
Cheers, MTS

George was born in Dundee Scotland in 1902.
Thanks for the help, and Merry Christmas to you.

If he served after 1922 or thereabouts, his service record will still be with the Ministry of Defence.

An image search found these 2 pics - The first one was on a discussion group that decided the helmet was a Cameronian's one. The 2nd one is from a Cameronians website. They certainly look like they match George's.
Seems they're Wolseley helmets, a pattern of cork sun helmet introduced in 1899 and widely worn as overseas service headdress from 1900. The style is named after Field Marshall Viscount Sir Garnet Joseph Wolseley.
It does look like a crossed rifle emblem on your man's arm but I can't figure out what the actual uniform is, tho it looks to be a dress uniform of some kind.
Cheers, MTS

Thanks for the help.
It's a start which is more than I had before joining this group.
As far as searching his military records, I don't have a service number so it looks like I'll have to spend a bit of time researching.
Thanks again for identifying his regiment.
