So now we know/think that Henry Potter Spreadborough born c1859 son of Thomas and Ann nee James married Kate Howlett nee Jones and was presumably a widow when she married Henry in 1888.
Yes, Christina It does all seem to be fitting into place now. Just wish we could find a death for Martin Rose Howlett to tidy it up.

Well done. It has to be him as his father is indexed by Ancestry, from marriage cert, as Martin Stally Howlett. Though I've no idea where MARK comes from.

His brother is Thomas Edward Mark Spreadborough age 4 in the 1861 census with his mother's father Edward James. The census says born Aldershot and the birth reg is Farnham.

Martin Howlett wasn't necessarily sent to Australia as a convict. He may have left his wife to try his luck out there or she could have left him to take up with Henry and he went to Australia to start a new life. I can't find a shipping record for him as yet. Someone in Australia knew him well because they knew the unusual middle name of his father. or of course he may have been in hospital prior to his death and given them his details. His death certificate would give the informants name.
