hi christanel,
as you have helped me a lot in the past, i really hope you can solve this riddle,
i am searching for THOMAS RICHARD SPREADBOROUGH B 1834 FARNHAM SURREY. his father Thomas Spreadborough a builder, wed ANN JAMES in Kingston Surrey 1856. I found Ann in 1861 census living with her dad Edward James, a jeweller, Farnhham, with three children. Well iI lost him searched every where , military, criminal, workhouses, travelled , remarried, died. Cannot find him anywhere and ANN SPREADBOROUGH/ JAMES AFTER 1861 LOST. Please could you help for my family tree?

As well as Thomas, Ann and family there is a Thomas and Elizabeth Spreadborough both aged 60 with other children and in another household a James Spreadborough age 20 and family. All bricklayers.

1861 there is

Thomas Spreadboro 52 Bricklayer born Farnham
Ann Spredboro 51 born Farnham
They are living at St...grey? Hill farnham
Further down the page are James Spredboro and Charlotte who were on the same page in 1851.

I see it as Spreadboro on the original image but ancestry has it transcribed as Spreadbrow

OK so ancestry through Fold 3, a subsiduary, have this record. In their wisdom ancestry now charge for you to look at this record even for those of us with a worldwide subscription so I can't see the image.

Thomas Spreadborough age 33 born about 1837 at Farnham Surrey.
Pension Admission or Examination Date - 26 March 1872
Regiment: Royal Engineers G.73678
Rank: Corporal

There is another Thomas Spreadborough I can see on the census with a quick look, but he is born c1829.
I think you need to look at this pension record to see if it has the name of a wife.

Findmypast has a record of a Thomas SPREADBOROUGH convicted at Farnham and imprisoned at Wandsworth in 1863. Assuming it's your man, the reason for his imprisonment may well have a bearing on why he is not with his family in 1861.

I can't give you any more details because of Findmypast's terms and conditions.

Henry Potter Spreadborough married June 1/4 1888 West Ham reg dist. to either Frances Sarah Cox or Kate Howlett. This marriage certificate would give you his father's name and occupation.

Added: I thought i would find out the maiden surname of Ann who married Thomas snr by looking at the GRO index for the birth of dau Ellen in the 1851 census. There is no maiden name given!!
