The only Henry Spreadborough born c1857 I can find in the censuses 1891 onwards is married to a Fanny Elizabeth and in 1891 his father is with them, also called Henry age 57 born c1838 Farnham. I think her maiden name is Moon from a marriage in 1887 Pancras. There is a daughter with them in 1891 Emma Eliza age 9 but I can't find a birth for her yet. I don't think she was Henry's daughter.
On the marriage register for this couple Henry is a carman, widower of full age, father Henry a bricklayer. Fanny Elizabeth is a spinster of full age, father W Moon a labourer. So this can't be your Henry.

    Sarah Spreadborough 45
    Mary Spreadborough 5
    Henry Spreadborough 12
    Sarah Ann Spreadborough 10
    Bertie Spreadborough 3

1911, Neath, Sarah Spreadborough is a widow, age 54, had 15 children, 4 still living. With Sarah: Henry 21; Sarah 19; Arthur 16; Bertie 13. All children tin workers, born Neath.

Doesn't add up as 1901 there's no Arthur, but a Mary age 5yrs.

I haven't found a marriage between Sarah Williams and Thomas Spreadborough.

Henry Potter Spreadborough married June 1/4 1888 West Ham reg dist. to either Frances Sarah Cox or Kate Howlett. This marriage certificate would give you his father's name and occupation.
So, this could be Henry in 1901, Prittlewell, Essex. RG13; Piece: 1681; Folio: 114; Page: 64

1911, still in Prittlewell. RG14; Piece: 10135; Schedule Number: 371. Henry indexed as HARRY P Spreadborough

E.T.A. Oh dear, this isn't all coming together either.
The only birth registrations I have found to (sort of) fit with the children have mother's maiden name JONES.

Hmm, I wonder. There is this marriage Sept qrt 1882, Hackney 1b 870, Kate Hannah JONES, also listed is a Martin Rose HOWLETT.

I'll look for a death for Martin Rose Howlett.

The marriage is on Ancestry's 'London, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1931'. However I haven't found a death for Martin. I'll see if the couple can be found on census returns.

E.T.A. No sign of Martin after his marriage in 1882, he's on the 1881 census in St Leonard, Shoreditch, also his baptism and birth registration can be found in 1858 Norwich, but nothing after 1882.

    Great stuff Alma.

My head was starting to spin with all the Thomases and Henrys.
So now we know/think that Henry Potter Spreadborough born c1859 son of Thomas and Ann nee James married Kate Howlett nee Jones and was presumably a widow when she married Henry in 1888.

1901 they are in Prittlewell, Essex. RG13 Piece 1681 Folio 114 Page 64
Henry P Spreadborough 39, agent wine trade, Farnham
    Kate Spreadborough 39, Hackney
    Violet Rd Spreadborough 10, Bow
    Rosier E Spreadborough 10, Hackney
    May N Spreadborough 7, Holloway

Henry/Harry is getting younger each census.

1911, still in Prittlewell. RG14 Piece 10135 Schedule number 371. Henry indexed as HARRY P Spreadborough
The P as the middle initial in 1911 clinches it for me.
    So one puzzle sorted.
Now to see if I can follow what everyone else has found re Thomas Spreadborough his father born c1834. I think I need some paper!
