    Default Wireless operator in WW2

I have a relative Edna Rae Third (1919-1994) who, in 1942, was one of the first 4 women from Aberdeen to receive the Postmaster General's special certificate in wireless telegraphy. Was she likely to have become involved in the war effort, and if so is there any way I can find out about this? I have found her name in the 1941 Postal Service Appointment book, but like all the wireless operators on the page, no mention is made of where she was working. She died in London.
I would be very grateful for any advice on this.

    Also try the Gazette.

    For example

    The London Gazette
    Publication date:
    13 November 1942
    Supplement:
    35787
    Page:
    4988

    WOMEN'S AUXILIARY AIR FOECE

To be Asst. Sec. Offs on prob. (Emergency)

    ...Edna Rae THIRD (6089),,,

I'll leave it to you to search further

HINT: Now you have her number, search for "THIRD (6089)"

It looks as if she was in the WAAF until 1954.

Hi Peter, Thank you so much for wonderful pointers. Can you help me with a question about the Gazette which is relevant to my query. When I look up Third (6089) 1954 I get a whole list of names, but the explanation as to what it's all about is obviously on a previous page which I can't access. What is the solution to this? It has happened to me before with other people too. Jenhen

    Hi

But you can look at previous pages, at the top of each page are arrows and also a page number, which has a drop down function, and you can pick whatever page you want to look at in that particular gazette. Start from the first page or sometimes just one page back.
