Are you sure it's an N and not a W?

Perhaps Smeeton Westerby (a township-chapelry in Kibworth-Beauchamp parish)

Looking at the register entry, Lizzie, I do think Peter is correct and that it is SW. If you look at the capital "N" of November in the burial record, it is slightly different to the W, which has a big upward curve to it at the end, so I think the likelihood is that the SW refers to Smeeton Westerby as the home of Thomas.

    Gartree Hundred
    Smeton cum Wetherby
    Freeholder's Name - Cobley, Thomas

There's a Thomas Cobley in the 1775 poll. The freehold is Gallow Tree Gate and have found a contemporary reference to a Thomas Cobley Jun of that place. So, the 1742 Thomas, Smeton cum Wetherby, still in the frame for the 1756 burial?
