Ann
I should have done this originally, but as this is a query rather than just introducing yourself I've moved the thread to the 'General Family History queries' forum.

Also investigate your local library. Barking & Dagenham libraries offer free access to Ancestry which should be a lot more useful than the Mickey Mouse systems you have been using.

The parish register images of Philip's marriage to Mary O'BRIEN which took place at Liverpool St Nicholas on 19 August 1906 plus that of his sister Louisa on 13 august 1905 at St Nicholas to William Henry THOMPSON are both available to view on Ancestry. Sister Louisa's baptismal image is also available to view on Ancestry. Father stated in all cases as John Alfred COUTANCHE, Sail Maker.
John Alfred COUTANCHE looks as if he married again as a Widower at Liverpool St Alban on 22 February 1914 to an Annie EDWARDS a widow. This marriage record is available to view on Ancestry and states that the father of John Alfred was Philip COUTANCHE, deceased, a Boot Maker, & Annie's father was Richard MAILES, deceased, a Farmer. It also shows that John Alfred was aged 53 at the time of his 2nd marriage, therefore born c1861 which ties in nicely with the census records. John Alfred COUTANCHE appears on the National Probate Calendar and died on 15 September 1933 at the Northern Hospital, Liverpool. Probate granted to John COUTANCHE Pawnbroker's Manager & Philip COUTANCHE Warehouseman.
Hopefully these images on Ancestry will corroborate the information you already have.
