I very much suspect that Stephen Joseph CLARKE, filed in the WW1 Service Records (WO 363), served under an alias - there is no suitable birth in freebmd. (There is always the chance that he was born in Ireland/Scotland/abroad ...) BUT ...

Could he be Stephen Joseph WATSON, born Liverpool, Q1 1899?
