    Looking for info on Sgt Norman Smith glider pilot whose flight to Arnhem 17/9/1944 was aborted over the Channel and he had to return to Tarrant Rushton

    Welcome to the British Genealogy Forum Casey.
    First questions - did he survive the War? And is he still alive?
    The second question is because we can’t post information about (potentially) living people in the open forum

    Are you aware that you can (if he’s dead) buy a copy of his records? When I get back to my PC I’ll post the relevant links for how to do so, unless someone else does it first. You’ll need a copy of his death certificate plus £30.

    Thank you. Yes, he survived but died in 2006. I am aware of records being available at RAF Cranwell records office but told they are restricted.

    I can’t get at my list of urls with my phone, but if you look at the top of this (RAF) forum, you’ll find a message expla8ning the records situation. I assume that you are a relative?

    No I am not related but I do know that there is a form for none next of kin searchers. Thanks for you replies
