This is what I meant when I said that you know more than you think you do.
For example, knowing that David was born 1827/28 and was the 3rd child gives us a rough estimate for the age of James. I assume (without information to the contrary) that her first child was born around 1823, so she won't have married any later than 1822. Marriage at 16 was unusual but possible in Scotland, so the latest she's likely to have been born is around 1806. You say that she had 11 children after David. Had she married late, say 40 or after, she would not have had biological time to have 11 more. It's more than likely that she married before she was 30 if she had that many children, given health and medicine of the time, so we can say that she was probably (not definitely) born between 1790-1806 (give or take a year or two). It's a rough calculation, but eliminates one couple that looked possible but who married in 1755.
Again, with her 3rd child born in 1828, if she had a child every year, the last one (assuming no twins) would have been born in 1839, so there's a chance that she was alive for the 1841 census, which gives us somewhere to look..
We do like solving these puzzles, but every tiny bit of hard data helps.

Ignoring the parents names as James and John in the obit there is a family in Liverpool in 1841 all members born Scotland. William and Robert are both aged 15 and could be twins but also they could be anywhere from 15 to 19 because the enumerators were asked to mark down to the nearest 5 the age of anyone from the age of 15 and up in the 1841 census. Some did and some didn't but this particular one seems to have done so looking at all the other entries.
1841 HO107 Piece 563 Book 1 Folio 31 Page 11
Bostock Street Liverpool County Lancashire
Alexander Scott 55
Agnes Scott 55
Ann Scott 25
John Scott 20 Cabinet maker
William Scott 15 Cabinet maker apprentice
Robert Scott 15 Cabinet maker apprentice
David Scott 14 Cabinet maker apprentice
Margret Scott 10
The points of connection of this family to your David is David age 14, the father's name Alexander and Liverpool. I know this family doesn't follow the Kankakee book but sometimes we have to eliminate families and at the moment I am trying to follow this one to see where they are in 1851

I've been chasing an alternative family. The 1841 and 51 censuses have a widow called Jane Scott, born Scotland abt 1799 (according to the 1851), living in Lytham (41) and Liverpool (51). In 41 she had 6 children living with her including William who's 8 months old. in 51, another daughter (badly transcribed name Jrust Whalley (age 31)) and her child are also with them. All children born in Lancashire. On the 1841, thanks to the handwriting, Jane looks very like James.
Free BMD has a death for a John Scott in Liverpool in the June Quarter of 1840...

The first sighting I have of David is 1850 US census with his wife Clarissa, he states he is born England with an English father & Scottish mother, this is consistent on all census!
There is no date for entry into the US or naturalisation papers so this can only be assumed unless records can be found

I can't see a baptism for a David to these parents but I also can't see one for Isabella age 15 in 1841.
