My great uncle Lt Harry Ormrod was killed 1st July 1916 at The Battle of The Somme serving for the KOYLI 8 Bat. I've just found out he firstly served for the 11th (Reserve) Bat. Could anyone please be able to tell me how to find out when he was transferred from the 11th to the 8th... Many thanks

His service record is at the National Archives
https://discovery.nationalarchives.go...ils/r/C1107234
Other sources:
Army Lists (there's a full run at the National Archives. You may find something online if you poke around)
London Gazette: (Online). I can see he was promoted to temporary second lieutenant on probation on 22 Jan 1916.

Thank you for your reply, it's appreciated. I believe he was a temporary lieutenant whilst in the 11th Bat, but the records I've found for the 8th Bat just say Lieutenant... I'll have a search on the National Archives. Many thanks again.

During WW1, men got moved around depending on the need - not just between battalions but even between regiments. You'll need the his service record to have any hope of finding out when it happened...
