Hi Geneius, Yes it looks like thats him. On #17 Dundee10 has kindly attached a snippet with Williams signature. Its a shame that there aren't any signatures on the Marriage Cert....maybe because its a Register Office Marriage. Hopefully now I will be able to make some progress. I'm grateful for everyones help.

It's late and I have just stumbled on this....

    1861
    RG 9; Piece: 836; Folio: 56; Page: 31;
    Wm Buttress 50
    Wm Mc Kay 25
    Mary Ann Mc Kay 28
    Louisa Mc Kay 3

    Name: Mary Anne Freeman*
    Gender: Female
    Christening Date: 11 May 1834
Christening Place: Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, England
    Father: William Freeman
    Mother: Elizabeth Freeman

    * Maiden name of mother on William Ernest's birth cert

    1881
    RG11; Piece: 1441; Folio: 55; Page: 43
    Monks Island
    William Mc Kay 46
    Mary Mc Kay 49
    Adia Mc Kay 17
    George Mc Kay 14
    Annie Mc Kay 12
    William Mc Kay 2

Seem to think this has already been given

    1911
    RG14; Piece: 7756; Schedule Number: 134
    Waterside, Kings Langley
    William McKay 77
    Mary Ann McKay 77
    George McKay 9
    Charlie McKay 7

A census search of Waterside may find the rest of the census as I suspect there is mis transcription of the name Mckay /Mackay /MckOy

FMP has baptisms & Burials for the family together with the children of William Mackay & Mary Ann Freeman under Kings Langley

What I cannot find is an appropriate marriage for William Mackay to Mary Ann Freeman!

Hi, I am still struggling with this...I cannot find a birth record, a 1901 Census or a 1939 Register for William (I am looking for William Walter not Ernest though...perhaps that where I am wrong but also looking for Mary Ann McKay still nothing). I now know that he Married Mary Ann Batchelor in 1899 she died in 1910 he married Mary Ann House in 1911, can find neither of them on 1939 register, perhaps he had died and she had remarried. I am going round in circles with William Walter and William Ernest...but beginning to thing they are one and the same.

William McKay and Mary Ann Freeman of Kings Langley/Abbots Langley were my great great grandparents. After extensive searching, I don't believe they ever got married. He was from Edinburgh. She was from Kings Langley. They had their first child Louisa (also known as Laura)in Holloway, London and then moved to Abbots Langley.
