Several glossaries have it as:
A weaver, originally a female weaver.

Don't forget that if the village was fairly small, there's a chance that when you find 2 men producing children at about the same time they were brothers (or maybe cousins). It might be worth looking at all Butcher baptisms for St Chad in that time period if you can... And marriages.

BUTCHER,Poulton Le Fylde
Folks,
Have found yet another James.
Baptism: 21 Apr 1711 St Chad, Poulton le Fylde, Lancashire, England
James Butcher - Son of Robert Butcher
Abode: Marton
Occupation: Husbandman
Marriages
Robert 1714
Thomas 1696 or 1711
John 1685 or 1719
I am leaning toward Thomas as James' first born is named Thomas,or am i just guessing?
Eric
